Riversdale women Emma Hammond and Kylie Davidson are two ladies on a mission.

Their accountancy firm, Hammond Davidson Ltd, is in the running for the ''Help, I Need Somebody'' section of the Rural Women New Zealand Enterprising Rural Women's Awards 2014.

Both women grew up being involved in the rural industry and have found Riversdale to be be the perfect base for their business.

What began for the mums as a conversation when seeing in the New Year of 2011, was firmed up in a conversation in January.

''One sunny day, early that January, we sat under the shade of a tree, while our kids played nearby, and firmed up our plans to begin business, which was so exciting,'' Mrs Davidson said.

''It felt totally right for us at that time, and still is.''

Both women love being a part of the Riversdale community.

Having a majority of rural clients they enjoy that clients can kick their boots off at the door.

''We fell like we are really close to the real issues affecting our clients by living and working rurally ourselves and so can truly understand their situations,'' Mrs Davidson said.

To balance family life with work, the pair work part-time and have four other women in their business team.

Mrs Hammond has two children and is also the treasurer and secretary of three groups in Waikaia.

''I enjoy being a part and an active member of the Waikaia Plunket and playgroup, tennis and squash clubs,'' she said.

Mrs Davidson also has two children and is trustee of the West Otago Health Trust and was president and coach of the Gore Athletics Club until taking a break to have her youngest child.

The women said the process of applying for the Enterprising Rural Women's Award had been great in itself as it made them step back and actually acknowledge what they had achieved in the past three years.
