Five Queenstown chefs have their knives sharpened and are ready to impress as they chase the title of ''Premier master of fine cuisine'', organised by Silver Fern Farms.
This year, Gantleys head chef Craig Hendry, a finalist last year, will compete against Carrick Winery head chef Gwen Harvie, Pier 19 sous chef Matthew Cross, True South restaurant executive chef Ben Batterbury and Wakatipu Grill sous chef Scott Wysockyj.
Other Otago contestants include Wild Earth head chef David Harrison, of Bannockburn, and The Thomas Green head chef Sam Brotherston, of Gore.
The competition showcases the skills of New Zealand chefs using premium red meat cuts.
The public can dine at participating restaurants and taste the dishes until October 31 - along with a panel of judges overseen by Kerry Tyack.
Ten regional finalists will be selected from across New Zealand, to be announced on November 10 and the ultimate winner will be announced in February.
