Racing: One Two Kenny carries on family record

One Two Kenny joined King Kenny as yet another generation of her family to win at Forbury Park as she led all the way to win the c1 trot on Friday night.

The 3yr-old is out of One Under Kenny, who won a 3200m trot at Forbury Park in February 2003 for one of her 11 victories.

One Under Kenny's mother, Frances Jay Bee, won at the Dunedin track in October 1995 and September 1996.

The winning streak goes back four generations, although not through Frances Jay Bee's mother, Lady Afton, who was unraced. Lady Afton's brother, Dunback Lad, won at Forbury Park in 1983.

One Two Kenny might be hard-pressed to beat her mother's 11 wins, but she is adding to the record of Oamaru trainer Phil Williamson, who brought up his 401st training victory thanks to the filly's victory. His 400th win came last week with Jelly Bean.

Win No 401 looked very likely at the top of the straight but One Two Kenny and her driver, Matthew Williamson, had to hold off a big finish from the rejuvenated Idle Conn.

Matthew Williamson was confident his filly would have responded if she had seen the late bid from the Tracey Healy-trained gelding.

''Her manners have been good but she's still a wee bit dumb,'' he said.

''She was racing a wee bit greenly up the straight. She just couldn't see the other horse. After the line, she took off.''

Monnay continued to be a great advertisement for winning off back marks when he was successful in the feature trot on Friday night.

The Monarchy 6yr-old has been an honest toiler this season, and his past six starts have been off 40m (twice), 50m (twice) and 60m (twice).

Monnay went close to winning off 60m on June 19, finishing third behind Another Love, but went two places better on Friday in the hands of Matthew Williamson.

Monnay had won off 50m on June 5, but it is almost six years since Phil Williamson prepared a horse to win off 60m.

His previous victor off 60m was at his home track of Oamaru when Moment Of Truth beat Domination at the Kurow Trotting Club meeting in August 2008.
