6-year-old hit by car 'ran into road'

A 6-year-old child was taken to hospital after an accident involving a car when he ran into the road in Dunedin.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said the accident happened in School St, Kaikorai, around 4pm yesterday.

"He appears to have run into the side of the car, not the car hitting him, which will have reduced possible injuries."

A Hato Hone St John spokeswoman said they sent one ambulance to the scene who treated and transported one patient to Dunedin Hospital in a moderate condition.

A first response unit was at the scene.
