Roslyn stretched out to a 3-0 lead at one stage against the maroons, who previously had not conceded a goal this season, although in a pulsating finish Technical narrowed the gap by scoring twice.
It was the same score in missing players, since Technical was two short - centreback Matt Joy and Scots striker Tom McNab - while the regular Roslyn trio of Sam Mepham, Cam Attwood and James Watson watched from the touchline.
Initially, Roslyn applied the sort of pressure that had been a Technical keynote, hard running off the ball and coach Colin Thom chose ''the old firm'' of Fraser Cameron, Tom Connor and Damo Foster to force errors.
Richard Smith was Technical's key player, winning high ball and setting up play with deft touches, while Taylor McCormack and Alistair Rickerby ran off his deliveries.
At halftime, with a 0-0 scoreline, the match looked like a stalemate. But Connor made a wide run that had referee Calvin Berg awarding a free kick, the ball was not cleared from Technical's goalmouth and a gleeful Cameron scored from close range in the 58th minute.
Tail up, Roslyn went further ahead as Geordie Mansford weaved past several tackles and earned a 67th-minute penalty, which captain Aajay Cunningham lashed into the top left corner, giving Tech keeper Tom Batty no chance.
Batty featured in a final goal he will want to forget, as he raced wide off his goal line, and only cleared as far as Mansford, who had the awareness and technique to fire a 35m shot back into the empty Technical goal.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
Technical coach Burgess - a former Golden Boot striker - entered the fray and, when big Andrew Douglas drove Technical back into the game with a 78th minute far-post goal from a corner, it was game on.
Frazzled Roslyn nerves were tingling as Burgess demonstrated his skills by receiving under pressure and a shot on the turn was well parried by Roslyn keeper Mike Rae, only for McCormack to dart in and score in the 84th minute.
The remaining time featured a few ''row Z'' clearances from Roslyn, some shimmies near the corner flag by Connor and Foster to eat up time, and near-frantic attacks by Technical, but referee Berg's final whistle pulled the plug on the pulsating match.
Thom singled out his young goalkeeper, Rae, for steady calmness under pressure, and also praised Roslyn central defenders Tyrrell Barringer-Tairi and Rory McLeod.
At the Caledonian Ground, it was a tense, tight struggle between Caversham and University, two evenly matched sides, with chances going begging at both ends.
Caversham's Sam Collier produced the only goal of the game with a well-taken strike in the 67th minute.
Winning coach Tim Horner praised the hard work and skill of striker Tom Jackson and, in defence, young centreback Mike Hogan and the experienced pairing of Mike Smith and Rhys Henderson.
University coach Luiz Uehara saw good and bad in the game.
''We had some very good spells of control, made some excellent chances, and defended well. This was a vast improvement compared to previous games against Caversham,'' he said.
In Queenstown, coach Jamie Whitmarsh was frustrated with his side's 1-1 draw with Mosgiel.
Queenstown missed a penalty but scored a fine goal through Jon French. Mosgiel's reply was from a neat left-foot drive by James McGarry.
Green Island moved up into mid-table with a 2-1 win over bottom side Northern at Sunnyvale.
Green Island looked safe after goals by Tennessee Kinghorn and Ben Kiore, but a late strike from Northern created an exciting finish.
