One of two dangerous prisoners who escaped from a moving prison van in the Horowhenua area on Wednesday has been caught.
Debden Wamoana and Jay Solomon forced their way from the van on the corner of Plimmer Terrace and Ballance Street in Shannon while being transferred from Manawatu Prison to Levin District Court.
A Central Police Communications spokesman said Solomon, 18, who faced charges of aggravated robber, was caught about 9pm yesterday.
However, Wamoana was still on the run.
Police warned members of the public not to approach Wamoana, 26, a 1.75 metre tall Maori man of medium build.
Wamoana faced charges of serious assaults and was described as violent.
Anyone who had had contact with Wamoana was asked to contact police.
