Salvation Army community ministries navigator Michelle Chirnside said the generosity of the Gore community was overwhelming.
"It’s amazing. A huge thank-you to all involved in Gore, Mataura, Edendale and Wyndham," Ms Chirnside said.
Gore River Valley Lions Club president Robyn Ross was also amazed by the generosity.
"It’s absolutely amazing. People were just bringing in stuff while we were out and about," Ms Ross said.
Last year, 7500 items were collected.
