A roundup of premier grade cricket games played in Dunedin over the weekend.
North East Valley tied with Albion 286
What a last over from Jarrod Mckay.
Albion looked like they were going to squeak out a tense victory against North East Valley at Logan Park on Saturday.
Josh Tasman-Jones punched out an undefeated 132. He clouted three consecutive sixes from the penultimate over to get his side into a good position to win.
But he lost the strike at a crucial time. And that left No11 James Brown requiring one off the last ball to seal victory.
But let us wind back the clock.
The Swans posted a challenging 286. Opener Shaedon Miller scored 60 from 70 deliveries and Thorn Parkes added 70 of 80. Jamie Grassi’s 48 off 49 was a big help as well.
Tommy Clout took four for 66 for Albion.
The Eagles lost the early wicket of Lewis Garden and the loss of Jamal Todd for 17 was a big blow.
But Amal Ashok (56) helped get the chase back on course and Tasman-Jones was towing the team to victory.
Oli White grabbed three wickets for the Swans to help set up a tense finish.
Albion needed three to win off the last over and McKay stepped up.
The Otago seamer bowled two dots balls before Brown was able to get off strike with a single.
Tasman-Jones could not score off the fourth ball of the over but managed a single off the penultimate ball to tie the game.
Brown chipped the last delivery to Parkes at a very short mid-on.
The game finished in a rare tie.
Albion manager Tony Buchanan said he could recall only one other tie in his time and that was when Kaikorai and Albion were all out for 105 each in 2018.
Green Island 239/8 lost to University-Grange 240/6
University-Grange ran down Green Island’s competitive total of 239 with a total team effort.
No-one really stood out in the top six. But they all chipped in with 30 or 40 at Sunnyvale to get there with seven balls to spare.
Jacob Cumming added 39 and took two for 43.
Dale Phillips made 40.
Luke Russell’s 39 not out was instrumental as well.
Dean Foxcroft top-scored for Green Island with 90 from 97. Joel Meade made 57 from 65.
Chirag Mandaviya did the bulk of the damage with the ball for University. He took four for 46 and got the key wicket of Foxcroft.
Taieri 289/7 beat CDK 79
CDK defaulted last weekend which made Saturday’s big loss to Taieri at Brooklands Park progress of sorts.
Taieri won by 210, having put on 289 for seven.
Beckham Wheeler-Greenall, who brought up 100 games for the side last weekend, scored 66. Nick Kwant smashed 73 from 54.
They shared in an 86-run stand for the third wicket.
Cameron Elliott made good use of that platform, whacking an undefeated 47 from 26 balls.
CDK’s chase faltered early and often. Tim King top scored with 18.
Hamish Hunter grabbed five for 35 in an impressive spell.
