E. coli water notice lifted

Lake Hawea residents can go back to drinking water straight from the tap.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council has lifted its advisory for those on the reticulated supply to boil drinking water because of E. coli contamination.

A spokeswoman said yesterday the supply had been clear of E. coli for the past three days.

However, chlorination would continue in the meantime as a precaution ''because E. coli is still being detected in the daily samples of untreated lake water''.
