Up to 100 high-net-worth angel investors are expected to arrive in Dunedin tomorrow to attend a summit meeting.
Organiser and Upstart chief executive Steve Silvey said the summit provided investors with an opportunity to engage with like-minded individuals and expand their networks.
''Their common goal is a shared passion for seeing New Zealand companies and entrepreneurs succeed.''
Internationally recognised speakers would attend the summit, including Basil Peters, from the United States, who on Thursday would talk about international trends, Mr Silvey said.
Summit delegates would also have the chance to work on locally sourced deals, in keeping with the summit's theme of ''actually doing it''.
Angels would analyse venture presentations from some local entrepreneurs with the assistance of experienced angels, including international guests.
''It will be an excellent opportunity to showcase Dunedin and our local angel investor environment.
''Dunedin punches above its weight for its innovation and is well known for nurturing a high number of entrepreneurs. We're looking forward to showing this off to the New Zealand angel investment community.''
Angel investors were affluent individuals who invested their own money in a business start-up, Mr Silvey said.
Their motivations went beyond pure monetary return.
They were motivated to make New Zealand great by helping to create global companies.
In doing so, they helped create jobs in their local economy, reaping rewards from giving back to the community, he said.
The summit ends on Friday.
