Leith rapid riders find fun in the flood

It might have been one for the ducks in Dunedin today, but that didn't stop a few hardy souls from finding fun in the floodwaters.

Steady rain through the day has brought flooding to many parts of the eastern South Island, particularly in Christchurch, Timaru and the Otago coast, including Dunedin.

The city's Water of Leith was raging today, and in the stretch around the University of Otago several people in kayaks and on surfboards took advantage of the fierce flow to run the rapids.

The Otago Daily Times caught some of the action.
