Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden and district council chief executive Adam Feeley will help manage the reintegration of Lakes Environmental board activities back into the council.
After discussions with gn board members, the council, as sole shareholder of Lakes Environmental, announced yesterday it appointed Ms van Uden and Mr Feeley as additional directors of the disbanded council-controlled organisation.
Ms van Uden said it was anticipated the number of directors would be reduced as the activities of Lakes Environmental were wound down and undertaken by the council.
While there would be changes over the coming months, Lakes Environmental employees would be treated as if they were council employees when it came to job opportunities through the transition, Ms van Uden said.
The council announced the appointment of temporary directors to the Lakes Leisure board last month.
''It is business as usual for the time being for all three organisations with the main benefit that Queenstown Lakes District Council, Lakes Leisure and Lakes Environmental staff are all able to be treated consistently in the review process.''
The latest manoeuvering followed the tabling of a report at an extraordinary meeting of councillors last month which revealed governance costs of more than $730,000 would be avoided if the regulatory activities of Lakes Environmental and Lakes Leisure were provided within the council. Ms van Uden announced the next day the council had formally resolved to disestablish both entities.
