The New Zealand XI have made a positive start to their first innings against England in their four-day match at the Queenstown Events Centre.
After dismissing the tourists for 426, New Zealand have gone to lunch at 56 without loss.
Otago's Hamish Rutherford is undefeated on 36 from 40 deliveries and the captain Tom Latham is 16 not out.
Earlier, England added 69 runs in just under an hour before being dismissed.
Ian Bell was the last man out, having advanced his overnight score from 127 to 158.
Otago under-19 player Michael Rae took a great catch to help dismiss Bell off the bowling of Neil Wagner.
Running backwards and steering into a burning sun, he grabbed the ball high above his head.
Otago strike bowler Wagner finished with four for 98, while his provincial team-mate Jimmy Neesham also claimed four wickets.
