Racing: Colt returning south

A Tapanui-reared colt out of a Gore-bred stallion will be based in Otago after the second day of the New Zealand Premier yearling sales in Christchurch yesterday.

Arden's Concord was knocked down for $25,000 to Westwood Beach trainer Graeme Anderson and his partner Wendy Muldrew. The pair had been on the Southern Bred Southern Reared yearling tour and inspected the colt at Arden Lodge.

The yearling colt is by Panspacificflight, who stands at Macca Lodge near Gore. He was represented by five yearlings over the two days of the sale, and the $25,000 paid for Arden's Concord was the top return for the American speedster, who is sitting in the top 10 list for 2yr-old sires in the United States.

Roxburgh breeder Bill Bain recouped some of the $95,000 he spent with Doug Gollan on Monday on Heart Stealer, when he and wife Pauline sold Onedin Highlander - a Changeover-Crafty colt - for $20,000.

Former American pacer-turned-sire Mister Big made a brief appearance at the second day of the sales, but his sole son in the ring, London Light, returned $30,000. London Light, out of a one-win Christian Cullen mare Arma Nightingale, was the second top lot on the day. An Art Official colt, Easy Rider, out of Divine, brought $38,000.

Sam Bourbon's presence as a sire was similarly brief. The French sire's only yearling in the ring, KD Bourbon, was sold for $25,000 to Australian Anton Golino, who has spent time in Sweden.
