Otago bowlers snaffled 15 Canterbury wickets yesterday to complete a satisfying two days for the province.
The Volts dominated the warm-up match in Rangiora, dismissing the home side for 155 and finishing the day with 15 for 238 from 97 overs.
Sam Wells produced a fine spell to pick up four quick wickets and spinners Nick Beard (four for 57) and Mark Craig (three for 55) made the most of the slow pitch.
But the foundation was laid by the quicks with Neil Wagner, James McMillan and Jacob Duffy all impressing with tidy spells.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Otago's bowling performance was the 33 maiden overs it sent down.
"All the guys bowled pretty well," assistant coach Nathan King said.
"Sam, in terms of wickets, got plenty but Neil Wagner, James McMillan and Jacob Duffy bowled very well.
"It was a pretty low, slow wicket with a bit of turn, so the spinners were tough to get away as well."
From Canterbury's perspective, Peter Fulton, Shanan Stewart and Henry Nicholls all got starts but did not go on.
Otago scored 350 for seven on the opening day and will take plenty of confidence from the performance.
"It has been a very good two days and days which have certainly been dominated by our boys."
The teams will play a one-day warm-match today.
