Mr Tulloch’s son Andy said his father’s birthday plans with the family on Monday were cancelled due to Alert Level 4, so he spent the day with the residents and staff of the Silverstream Rest Home.
The staff gave him a cake and set up a Zoom meeting with his family.
Mr Tulloch was born in Christchurch on August 23, 1921.
His father and uncle both saw war service and he followed suit, spending four years in North Africa and Italy during World War 2.
After the war he married Veta, nee Meikle, and began work as a manager of the Smith and Smith Christchurch and Greymouth branches. He retired in 1982.
The couple arrived in Dunedin in February of 2011, as earthquake refugees.
The upheaval exacerbated Mrs Tulloch’s developing dementia and he spent the next four years caring for her.
She died at Braeside Hospital in 2015.
Mr Tulloch moved into the rest-home just over a year ago.
