Football: Keeper badly injured

Former Chile age-group international Sergio Bustos was badly injured in a Chatham Cup fixture at the Caledonian Ground yesterday.

The talented Manukau City goalkeeper had a heavy collision with Caversham striker Tom Jackson and was taken to Dunedin Hospital with a broken leg.

Bustos, in New Zealand on a working holiday, was due to return to Auckland with his team-mates last night, some of whom delayed their return to support their team-mate.

The sickening incident happened 30 minutes into the second half. Bustos was lured outside of his box to cut off a through ball which Jackson was haring after.

The game was delayed for 40 minutes while the player received medical attention before being stretched from the field.
