A 31-year-old unemployed man appeared in Manukau District Court this morning accused of the execution-style slaying of a South Auckland man at the weekend.
The man, who was granted name suppression, was charged with murdering John Maeva, 25, outside his Papatoetoe home in the early hours of Sunday morning. The man accused did not plead and was remanded in custody until later this month.
Members of Mr Maeva's family shouted abuse at the accused in the dock and had to be silenced by security guards.
Mr Maeva was shot three times, twice in the head and once in the side with a .22-calibre weapon, as he returned home about 12.30am on Sunday.
He was father and stepfather to six children ranging in age from one to 13 years and his partner was seven months pregnant with their second child.
She found him in a pool of blood outside their home after hearing the shots.
