Two of life's pleasures are once again allowed from today under alert level 3 - takeaway fast food and golf.

There were lines of vehicles at fast food drive-throughs on Tuesday, while many golf courses across the city are booked out today.

Among those waiting to get their fix at McDonald's Linwood Ave was central Christchurch resident Matiu Cowles.

Mr Cowles was on his way to do some grocery shopping, and decided to drop in.

"I was expecting the queue to be a lot longer," he said as he ordered a big mac, chips and drink.

He has been spending the lockdown with his grandparents and was happy things are starting to return to normal.

He is a construction worker and starts back at work tomorrow.

Meanwhile, golfers are able to hit the greens again for the first time in more than a month, provided they obey strict rules.

Anne and Barry Brown, of Parklands, were looking forward to their game at the Bottle Lake Golf Club, which has been booked out today.

"Great weather - just right for golf," said Mr Brown.

Graeme Smith and his sons Lance and James were also very excited to hit the Bottle Lake course again.

The Smiths have been suffering from cabin fever and were really looking forward to playing again. During the lockdown, they have been practicing on a golf simulator at home.

When playing sports, such as golf, croquet, lawn bowls and tennis, people will be required to provide details for contact tracing, bring their own equipment, abide by the hygiene rules of the club and stay only for the period of time they participate in the sport. Sports that are allowed should only be played with members of your bubble and if you need to book a time to play, you will have to do this online as clubhouses are closed.

As for your fast food options, McDonald's, Domino's, Subway, Burger King, Pizza Hut, KFC and Carl's Jr are all planning to reopen under level 3. Opening times will vary from store to store today.

KFC and Pizza Hut stores are operating in a phased approach. Details of when each store will be open is available on their websites.

Fast food drive-throughs across the city are expected to be particularly busy today, and people can once again get some of their favourite takeaway meals too, as long as they place their orders and pick them up without face-to-face contact.
