It was announced yesterday the Grammy-winning band would perform its only South Island show at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday, September 21.
The band played its only other Dunedin stadium concert on a Wednesday night in 2015, drawing a crowd of almost 35,000 after tickets sold out in just minutes.
This time, fans would be in for a different experience.
New Zealand music star Neil Finn, together with Mike Campbell, formerly of the Heartbreakers, have replaced vocalist and lead guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.
Tickets to the September concert do not go on general public sale until January 25, but that did not stop an early rush to book hotel or motel rooms in the city yesterday.
Victoria Hotel front office manager Ben Cochrane said bookings started coming in "almost immediately" after yesterday morning's announcement.That was consistent with the "pattern" for big concerts in Dunedin now, when fans sought accommodation first and tried to get tickets later.
He expected the presence of Neil Finn - of Split Enz and Crowded House fame - would help the concert's popularity.
"I think it's probably going to be even bigger than the last Fleetwood Mac concert."
Other accommodation providers also reported similar levels of interest, including at Alexis Motor Lodge, where staff said they had been "flat out".
"We've had bookings just coming in left, right and centre, actually."
I-Site Dunedin visitor centre manager Louise van de Vlierd said some fans were already taking a "punt" and booking accommodation for the concert, as were some companies making block bookings.
"That's normal procedure. But as people get seats or don't get seats, things start to change around a wee bit as well."
Dunedin Venues Management Ltd chief executive Terry Davies said it was "fantastic news" the band was returning to Dunedin, following the success of their 2015 show.
"We know there were a lot of fans disappointed that they missed out and now they'll have the opportunity to see this incredible band perform."
Fleetwood Mac is also playing in Auckland on September 16 and 19.
