Swimmers in the women’s 16 and over skins race are cheered on by supporters at Moana Pool on the final day at the Neptune Swimming Club 35th annual Queen’s Birthday meet at the weekend.

Swim Otago chairman and met director Matthew Heaton said there were 432 swimmers aged from 7 to 23 at the meet.Competitors came from all over the South Island  with a large contingent from Christchurch, Heaton said.

‘‘Because it’s a long course 50m meet and with the big national open coming up shortly it was one of the last chances for swimmers in the South Island to practise their 50m swimming for the open meet,’’ he said.
