Settled look to Super squads for next year

The days of the bolter appear to be long gone as a settled look is revealed for next year's Super rugby sides.

The number 31 appears to be in vogue as that is the number of players who return from last year for the Chiefs, Hurricanes and Highlanders.

The Blues bring back 25 players from last year's team although they also have brought in some players from other franchises. The Crusaders have 10 new players but still have a core of experience.

North Harbour's success in the Mitre 10 Cup is reflected in the selection of eight players in the Blues.

The Chiefs bring back Liam Messam and Tim Nanai-Williams and have a solid looking forward pack. The ageless Stephen Donald continues in the side after limited impact and the side will want to have Charlie Ngatai back on the park following his concussion issues.

The Crusaders, as usual, will have a solid forward pack but may lack some spark in the backs with the departure of big winger Nemani Nadolo. The side welcomes back midfield back Tim Bateman, who has returned from Japan, and young Taranaki winger Manasa Mataele.

The Hurricanes have managed to hold on to all of their stars while adding young backs Peter Umaga-Jensen and Jordie Barrett. Lock James Broadhurst has been named after missing all of this season because of concussion.

All in all, 33 new players have joined the five squads.
