Playing its first home game in five years, Southern United beat Canterbury United 9-2 on Saturday and backed up with a 6-3 win yesterday.
A frantic first half saw Southern United hold a 2-1 lead at the break on Saturday, with goals to Mike Taylor and Daniel de Souza.
However, a rampant second half saw Southern United net seven goals to Canterbury United’s one, with de Souza adding two more to complete a hat-trick.
It started in a similar manner yesterday, dominating possession in the first half and holding a 3-0 halftime lead.
Canterbury United came out looking far more polished after the break and began to play a five-man game in the later stages.
It was unable to eat into the deficit, though, as both teams scored three goals apiece.
Coach Darren Hart was happy with the successful start to the season.
"Yeah, I mean six points, it’s always good, two wins," he said.
"It’s always a bit nervous when you start up the national league. All the players are nervous; they haven’t played for a while. The level at national league is way higher than anyone plays locally.
"We saw [on Saturday] in the first half, it was just incredibly frantic, and as the games have gone on everyone’s just a little bit calmer now and we’re getting back into it."
It was encouraging seeing the amount of depth in the squad.
"It was nice to get ourselves into a position where we were enough goals up where we could get all of our guys a really good run on the pitch, even the ones lower down the order.
"We’ve given reasonable court time to everyone to get themselves in the mix. The Queenstown guys have blended in fairly seamlessly with the local players, which is really good."
The side would have a two-week break before heading to Christchurch for a regional series in which it would play teams from Manawatu and Wellington.
"We’re just looking forward to the next one, really. Once everyone’s got on the court, it’s all exciting and they want to keep going."
Meanwhile, the Southern United Youth side lost to Hamilton Wanderers 3-1 at Tahuna Park in its first game of the season.
