The Otago and Highlanders winger has signed a one-year deal with Bath in the English Premiership and will join the club at the start of next month.
Wilson is only 26 but he has already played sevens for two countries, played Super rugby for two sides in two countries and also played top-level domestic rugby in England and New Zealand.
Wilson said the deal came about through connections with new Bath coach Tabai Matson.
''When I was at university in Canterbury, Tabai used to come along and help out with the team. So I knew him from that,'' he said.
''So when we played a game up in Oamaru against the Crusaders during the break I caught up with them and got talking and things just went from there.
''I qualify as a local player so that really helps and puts me in the English player pool. They seem to have made a good start to the season. Some new coaches and players have brought a breath of fresh air into the place.''
The son of All Black hooker Brett Wilson, he played sevens for New Zealand in 2012 and then headed to the United Kingdom to see friends.
That turned into a two year-stay at Saracens. He then headed to South Africa for a short stint with the Sharks in Super rugby last year before linking up with Otago.
He played some tournaments for England in sevens earlier this year but then came back to New Zealand to join the Highlanders as injury replacement for Richard Buckman.
''Life is about opportunity and that is what I'm doing, taking up these things that come along. I think it is a judgement of character too and, hopefully, I can have a bit of fun along the way. There is plenty of time to settle down later on.''
Wilson said qualifying as an overseas player made it hard for him to continue with the Highlanders, as other players such as winger Patrick Osborne (Fiji) and prop Siosiua Halanukunuka (Tonga) counted as overseas players.
Otago captain and No8 Paul Grant has joined Bath and will also move at the end of the season, although Wilson was unaware Bath had signed Grant until it was revealed last week.
His partner, Ashleigh Sewell, will accompany him back to London. Originally from England, she had travelled the world with Wilson.
Wilson is on the sidelines at the moment after injuring his shoulder last month. He said it was a grade two tear of the AC joint and he hoped to be back for the semifinals of the Mitre 10 Cup.
Manawatu forward Jackson Hemopo has re-signed for the Highlanders.
Hemopo told media yesterday he had signed for three years for the southern franchise.
The lock-loose forward played one game for the team last year but did not get on the field this past season.
