One person was killed when a scooter collided with a power pole in Horowhenua early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash near Hennesey and East roads in Shannon, southwest of Palmerston North, about 1.15am.
Inspector Ian Harris of police central communications said a male rider died at the scene.
A second person was reportedly injured but no further details were available.
An ambulance spokesman confirmed the fatality but could not confirm a second person was injured.
