The jury has retired for the night without reaching verdicts in the trial of Liam James Reid in the High Court at Christchurch.
The jury began considering its six verdicts about 3.10pm at the end of a two-hour summing up by Justice Lester Chisholm.
Reid denies charges of raping and murdering 20-year-old Christchurch woman Emma Agnew, and the rape, sexual violation, attempted murder and robbery of a 21-year-old Dunedin student nine days later.
Reid denies he was responsible for either attack.
At 5.45pm it was decided that the jury would retire to a hotel for the night and would resume its deliberations at 9am tomorrow.
