Walk that extra mile

More than 100 purple-clad people marched along George St, Dunedin led  by a piper on Saturday, to raise awareness for World Alzheimer’s Month.

The seventh annual Memory Walk was one of 20 nationwide It was estimated to have attracted more than last year’s 4500 marchers, in efforts to raise dementia awareness and challenge the stigma associated with the condition.

Alzheimers New Zealand said four out of five New Zealanders were affected by dementia in some way.

The number living with dementia was expected to almost triple to about 170,000 by 2050.
