A woman who survived a crash near Allanton yesterday says she is in "remarkably good condition" in Dunedin Hospital after her car got "smoked".

A police spokesman said a crash involving a car and a truck was reported at 9.19am on the Allanton-Waihola Highway near the Allanton Bridge, south of Dunedin.

The spokesman said one person was taken to Dunedin Hospital.

The woman, who declined to be named, was travelling alone in her car to the airport when the driver’s side of her vehicle was "smoked by a truck".

Following the crash, she had to be cut out of her vehicle by firefighters.

However, she said she was in "remarkably good condition, considering what happened".

The woman had a cut to the head, which was not serious, and had either bruised or broken ribs which was yet to be confirmed by X-ray.

She said she was "in good spirits".

The highway was closed in both directions after the crash but reopened shortly before 11am.

Hato Hone St John, Fire and Emergency New Zealand and police were all in attendance.
