Otago surf lifesaving search and rescue member Brent Matehaere wraps emergency tape around a submerged vehicle in Otago Harbour, near the Andersons Bay Sea Scouts boat shed on Saturday.

A police spokesman said they received reports of a vehicle in the water near Portobello Rd about 11.30am.

Nobody was inside the submerged vehicle and a towing company was contacted on Saturday, the spokesman said.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said the vehicle was submerged about 30m from the shore.

It was unknown when the vehicle had entered the water or whether it had been dumped there, the spokeswoman said.
