A Dunedin bar which closed under a cloud last year is set to reopen under new management.
Great King St bar The Break closed in September following a litany of issues including Mongrel Mob connections, high staff turnover and an inability to stick to licensing rules.
A new bar, Terminus, is set to open in its place with the involvement of Dunedin hospitality veteran Rob Dale.
Mr Dale said the new bar would have a different focus from The Break and would include a cafe.
‘‘With the new bus hub coming in at our front door, we think it is going to increase the foot traffic around here immensely.''
It would also be run ‘‘responsibly'' and in accordance with the city's licensing rules, which was not the case with its previous operators, he said.
The decision to take over the building was made only on Tuesday last week and they were working around the clock in an attempt to open it as early as next week.
Mr Dale was taking a back seat and mentoring two younger people who had bought the bar.
‘‘I am too old for this game.''
