The Dunedin Public Library was a hive of activity at the weekend as families flocked there for a celebration of children’s literature.

Poetry writing, face painting, theatre and storytelling featured at Storylines Family Day on Saturday, with the smell of popcorn permeating  the building as children of all ages rushed from one literary delight to the next.

Co-ordinator Kay Mercer said up to 1000 children and their parents were expected to  visit  the library for the event.

It gave children a chance to meet some of their favourite authors and provided future writers with inspiration, Ms Mercer said.

It also showed off what the library had to offer to children who might otherwise not visit very often.
