Dunedin's Hilton hotel development is not affected by the liquidation of four companies connected to hotel developer McEwan Group Ltd, the developer says.
Dan McEwan, of Auckland-based McEwan Group, said yesterday a complex structure of unsubscribed shares, share transfers and shares with charges over them meant the hotel development was not affected.
"It does not mean anything as far as the project goes," he said.
Last Friday, four companies of which Dan McEwan was a director were placed in liquidation on an application from Inland Revenue.
Mr McEwan said the company disputed the IRD application, which involved "tens of thousands of dollars" and that it did not involve other creditors.
"It was purely an internal IRD issue."
The McEwan Group had started a fresh round of advertising the Hilton development last week to dispel doubt about the project, and he said it had received a good response.
Asked if the development would go ahead, Mr McEwan said nothing was certain in these economic times.
"In this market who knows what is safe and what isn't."
