The South Dunedin Work and Income office has closed for flood repairs.
In a statement, the Ministry of Social Development said it would be shut for at least two months.
The Hillside Rd office initially reopened after the July 21 flood, but closed a week ago, because of water damage from that event.
After the 2015 floods, it closed for about 10 months, despite the flood damage being promptly repaired.
MSD regional commissioner Sue Rissman said yesterday ''extensive remedial work'' could not be carried out without closing the office.
''While we do not have a date that the site will reopen yet, we anticipate the work will be carried out as soon as possible so we can resume our usual service to the South Dunedin community.''
Staff would work from the central city office and would see their South Dunedin clients there.
Anglican Family Care director Nicola Taylor hoped the office would reopen as quickly as possible.
Public Service Association organiser Keith McFadyen said the damage was initially assumed to be minor but a bad smell was noticed and the carpet was pulled up. He understood there was damage to the concrete floor.
