The Otago finalists in the Sounds of your Hometown who performed from 11am until 11.30am were: Taking the Fall (KFC Roslyn), Jae Bedford (South Dunedin), Oliver Coutts (Dunedin North), Steven Tuffery (Oamaru) and Beach (Alexandra).
Nationally more than 300 musicians performed at 94 KFC stores on Saturday.
The national winner of the competition, to be announced on May 16, will receive a $15,000 prize to help pursue a musical career.
The competition is being run by KFC in conjunction with broadcasting funding agency New Zealand On Air and music retailer Amplifier.co.nz.
The contest is aimed at supporting NZ Music Month and showing support for musicians who have not signed recording or distribution contracts.
Members of Dunedin band Taking the Fall said they were making the most of every opportunity to perform in public ahead of the Otago University Students Association Battle of the Bands on May 21.
