Even the weather pleases

David Glen is happy to have swapped Auckland's traffic jams for a quieter pace of life in Dunedin and has even been pleasantly surprised by the weather.

After living in Auckland all his life, Mr Glen moved to Dunedin with his wife Liz in May last year, to take up the position of chief executive of agritech company TracMap.

More than six months on and having just purchased a house in East Taieri, he said the lifestyle in Dunedin was ‘‘sensational'' compared with Auckland and he was enjoying his role at a growing company.

‘‘I am very happy to have moved down here. The pace of life is a little bit slower, but that's not a bad thing.‘

‘In Auckland, it's frenetic. People get stuck in traffic for hours. That just doesn't happen here.''

It was also easy to get out of town to enjoy the outdoors, with nice beaches such as Warrington or Brighton just a short drive away.

‘‘It doesn't take very long to get anywhere.''

To top it off, the weather had been better than he expected.

‘‘I was pleasantly surprised with the winter. Yes, it's cooler but by the same token, it's drier than Auckland.''

Auckland's humidity also meant you ‘‘started to melt'' when it got much above 20degC, but it was comparatively pleasant at the same temperature in Dunedin.

There were also opportunities for highly skilled professionals in the city, Mr Glen said.

‘‘There is certainly some smart people here and there are some really good and exciting businesses.''
