A Dunedin man stung for allegedly drink-driving more than four times over the legal limit amongst morning commuters has sparked a police warning to recreational consumers of alcohol.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said officers observed a vehicle speeding through a red light at the intersection of George and Pitt Sts about 9.20am.
The 52-year-old driver was stopped in Drivers Rd and recorded a breath alcohol level of 1045mcg.
The legal limit for adults is 250mcg.
He told officers that he had been drinking the night before, but finished up around midnight.
The man’s license was suspended for 28 days and he was issued a summons to appear in court.
The incident served as a reminder for drivers who have been drinking the night before to allow their body enough time to process the alcohol.
"If in doubt don’t drive," Snr Sgt Bond said.
