Councillors back rounding of pool charges

Dunedin City councillors have supported rounding pool charges to the closest 50c.

Council staff said rounding pool charges would simplify the cash handling process for customer service staff and result in quicker transactions for people paying with cash.

However, the change meant charges for some services would increase by more than the 3% target in the original 2016-17 draft annual plan.

As a result, the council was expected to receive about $5000 in extra revenue in the 2016-17 year.

Councillors voted in favour of the change with almost no discussion, meaning it has now been added to the draft annual plan.
