Fundraising for a new library for Blueskin Bay is almost complete after a $200,000 lottery grant was announced yesterday.
Blueskin Bay Library Redevelopment Trust chairman Stuart Strachan said final costings were required, but he believed the trust needed about another $40,000. The lotteries grant brought the fundraising tally to $838,000.
The library was to be built next year, Mr Strachan said.
The proposal involved demolishing the existing 19-year-old library to make room for the new one.
The planned library has been billed as environmentally friendly for its use of heat and light.
The library was one of 40 projects to get more than $6.6 million in the latest round of New Zealand Lottery Grants Board community facilities funding.
Other grants from Otago and Southland: Aparima College, $32,909; Arrowtown Bowling Club, $28,408; Clutha United Swim Club, $118,000; East Otago District Lions Club Charitable Trust, $21,497; Southland Indoor Leisure Centre Charitable Trust, $750,000; Te Hou Ora Otepoti, $9500.
