Airport turns 50; festivities next week

Dunedin International Airport turned 50 yesterday, but celebrations are on hold until next week.

A commemorative exhibition showcasing historical aspects of Otago aviation and the airport, and photographs of a day in the life of the airport, will open on Monday at the Community Gallery in Princes St.

The launch of the book Flight Path Dunedin, written by Dunedin broadcaster and historian Jim Sullivan, will take place on the same day.

The book tells the story of Otago aviation as well as the 16-year battle to build an airport at Momona.

The exhibition runs from Monday until June 3, before being moved to the airport on June 4.
