A road barrier damaged by a runaway logging truck trailer on State Highway 88 at Blanket Bay has been repaired at a cost of about $8000.
Contractors for the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) completed repairs to the damaged guard rail this week, after about 25m of the barrier was smashed when the trailer of a Dunedin Carrying Company Ltd logging truck came loose on Monday morning.
The truck was being driven towards Port Chalmers, and despite the trailer crossing the road, no-one was injured.
NZTA Otago Southland highways operations manager Roger Bailey said there was nothing to suggest road issues contributed to the crash.
SH88 was reduced to one lane on Monday afternoon while the trailer was winched out of the sea, up a bank and back on to the road.
Floating logs also had to be retrieved from the inlet.
