The sun may be shining today, but we all know what comes next. Amy Parsons-King looks ahead.
One of the most important fashion investments you'll make this autumn/winter is on a great coat.
So to ensure you get your money's worth this season you'll need to be purchasing a jacket that is ultra oversized.
Although coats have been gradually moving towards a more relaxed silhouette over the past few seasons, winter 2015 sees designers such as Lonely Hearts, Kowtow, Ingrid Starnes, C&M and NOM*d take this trend to exaggerated proportions, with many featuring drop shoulders, billowing sleeves and long hemlines.
You'll find oversized coats available in an array of styles, including single breasted, double-breasted, parka-style and trench.
There are collarless coats, ones with large lapels, as well as belted variations.
As far as colours go, mustard, khaki, black, grey, caramel and navy are all popular, while bold check and plaid are the go-to for patterns.
How to wear the oversized coat you may be wondering?
I asked Cherry Hart, assistant manager of Belle Bird Boutique in Dunedin.
''I recommend a play with proportion and layering, balancing the exaggerated styles with shorter hemlines and slim lines. Oversized coats look particularly good worn open or loosely belted, giving the wearer not only warmth but also the opportunity to showcase the rest of their outfit.''
