Senior promotions have been announced at Dunedin business advice firm Polson Higgs, including one person who has been with the business since it was founded in 1997.

Carole Adair started when Polson Higgs was formed and has been promoted to partner, while Ryan Ehlers has been promoted to associate.

Mrs Adair joins existing partners, Henry van Dyk, Michael Turner, Steve Dunbar and Tim Dunn.

A University of Otago graduate with a bachelor of commerce degree, Mrs Adair in 1986 joined Lawrence Anderson Buddle, which later merged with Price Waterhouse, and was part of the team in 1997 when the Dunedin business was acquired from Price Waterhouse, by founders Stephen Higgs and Ray Polson.

''The best part of my role is working closely with clients, some of whom I've been working with since the start of my career,'' Mrs Adair said.

Aside from work with many family-owned businesses, Mrs Adair also has strong interests in the charities and health sectors.

Mr Ehlers joined Polson Higgs in 2012 after also studying at the University of Otago, completing an LLB and BCom. Mr Ehlers gained admittance to the bar in 2012 and his chartered accountant's qualification in 2015.

''I'm really looking forward to helping drive the direction of our business, particularly around our client service and advisory developments,'' he said.

The firm, now with 53 staff, specialises in business advice, including accounting, business systems, human resources, IT, payroll, tax, training and wealth management.
