Bred by Philip and Geoffrey Wilson's Telesis stud, Geoffrey Wilson said the 7-year-old bull had the right blend of production, type and management traits, attributes which saw him in 2007 win the Mahoe Trophy.
That trophy is awarded by the New Zealand Holstein Friesian Association to the bull which has the most influence over the national dairy herd.
"He comes up as the most balanced sire," said Geoffrey Wilson, who visited the bull in Hamilton recently.
Firenze's dam was still in Mr Wilson's herd, and several of his half brothers were at CRV Ambreed's farm being assessed as potential suppliers of semen to the dairy industry.
CRV Ambreed promotes Firenze for producing moderate sized cows with all-round type, protein production, confirmation and temperament.
Mr Wilson said it was heartening to see semen from Firenze sold around the world.
