PGGW expands in Nelson

PGG Wrightson has expanded its business in Nelson with the purchase of Nelson Livestock Services.

PGG Wrightson livestock manager Nigel Thorpe said Nelson Livestock Services was a key player in the region with a 60% market share, predominantly in the sheep and beef sector but with a smaller position in dairy.

Mr Thorpe described the acquisition as a significant step for the business, given the company's strength of local experience and market share.

''Along with other recent acquisitions in the livestock businesses across New Zealand, this is an exciting development that supports the PGG Wrightson group strategy to grow the business,'' he said.

Nelson Livestock Services has been owned and managed by Mr Peter Taylor, who will become PGG Wrightson livestock manager for Nelson Bays.
