Coliseum Sports Media and Television New Zealand will be partners in a step back in time from August 1, when a ''match of the week'' football game will be shown each Sunday, from noon to 2pm.
There will also be a one-hour highlights package on TV One on Mondays.
Coliseum announced yesterday it was the successful bidder for the English Premier League (EPL) rights. More than 20 years ago, TVNZ carried Match of the Day matches from the league.
Sky Network TV, which had previously carried the games, saw its share price fall yesterday after the announcement.
All 380 games of the league would be delivered through a dedicated online pay-per-view online platform through PremierLeaguePass.com.
There were three packages to choose from. The platinum season pass would cost $239.90, the season pass $149.90 and a day pass $24.90.
Coliseum chief executive Tim Martin said sports fans would have unprecedented freedom to watch the content on Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad, Android phones or tablet devices; through their television by Apple AirPlay or by connecting their television to their laptop, using an HDMI cable.
As a digital platform, PremierLeaguePass.com would use adaptive streaming to ensure ''absolute broadcast quality'' and a continuous, uninterrupted viewing experience for different bandwidths and broadband speeds in New Zealand, he said.
Craigs Investment Partners broker Chris Timms said the cost make-up for the PremierLeaguePass.com was interesting. For nearly $240 a year, subscribers received just the football games. For $317.40 subscribers would receive the Sky Network TV sports package with a range of sports.
''We retain the view that this single event does not change the value proposition for Sky TV. It does, however, highlight competition is a factor in content and that new platforms open up potential.''
