Local body representatives yesterday accepted that the machines would not run here again. Three railcars are still idle in the city after being black-listed by the Otago branch of the Engine Drivers, Firemen and Cleaners Association, but the Otago Council, which has been organising protests, has dissociated itself from the move.
At a special meeting of the council local body representatives questioned the General Manager of the New Zealand Railways Department, Mr T. M. Hayward, and members of Parliament. There was no dissent at the end of the meeting to a resolution which said in part the council "accepted with regret the cessation of railcar services".
