Rugby: Samoa used lineout move first

The legitimacy of Richie McCaw's winning try against the Springboks on Sunday morning has been fiercly debated.

However, in the aftermath of the game-winning five-pointer, evidence has come out to suggest that Samoa had previously pulled off the set play in the past.

In 2013 - also against Springboks - the Samoans utilised the move in the 70th minute, when down 42-16, resulting in a try for their replacement halfback Junior Poluleuligaga.

There was no controversy over the tactic at the time, as opposed to McCaw's effort, where is was debated whether he entered the lineout before the ball had left hooker Codie Taylor's hands.

Having had the tactic occur against them twice in three years, it is unlikely that South African coach Heyneke Meyer will let his side concede in similar circumstances again.
