Sacred Heart College toppled St Kentigern College 19-16 in Auckland's 1A First XV competition today.
The game looked to be this week's marquee match-up in the country and Sacred Heart's win locks them in firmly as contenders for the championship.
Front runners King's College had a big win, 49-0, over Otahuhu College, while Mount Albert Grammar were 28-3 victors over St Peter's College. Auckland Gammar beat Kelston Boys' High School 28-14 in the other big game of the round.
Gisbourne Boys' High School edged St Pats Silverstream 29-28 in the Hurricanes region, while Wellington College claimed a narrow 21-19 win over Napier Boys' High School. Palmerston North Boys' High School notched an impressive 33-8 win over Scots College.
In the Crusaders' region St Bede's beat an increasingly competitive Waimea Combined team 12-10. Christ's College ran out 46-14 victors over Rangiora High School, Nelson College beat Ashburton College 41-12 and Shirley Boys' High School thrashed Roncalli College 76-3.
Christchurch Boys' High School meet Timaru Boys' High School on Tuesday in their interschool match.
The Chiefs' region saw Hamilton Boys' High School beat St John's Hamilton 26-19, while St Paul's Collegiate were too good for Wesley College, winning 39-10.
Rosmini College won 27-12 against Whangerei Boys' High School in the big game in the North Harbour competition.
