It was business as usual for apprentice jockey Jake Lowry on his 18th birthday at the Otago Racing Club jumpouts yesterday.

Lowry rode both winners on the short card, kicking home a filly out of Of The Essence in the 600m inexperienced heat before steering Patrick Erin to a win in the 800m maiden heat.

The Raise The Flag-Of The Essence 2yr-old filly has a long way to go to match the exploits of her mother, who won 10 races from 44 starts including two Gore Cups and two Clare Memorial Gold Cups.

However, co-trainer Shane Anderton said she would be the most likely of the three juvenile fillies from yesterday's first heat to line up at a race meeting this autumn or winter, based on yesterday's run.

‘‘We'll see if they stay on their tucker,'' he said.

Patrick Erin pulled away nicely in the 800m maiden to beat stablemate Raise You Ten by two lengths, with owner Pat Smith watching on.

The full brother to Monday winner Gallant Boy is a chance of making his debut at Wingatui on April 14 or April 27, Anderton said.
