Harrison Biggs has added his name to an impressive list which includes Black Caps Brendon McCullum and Nathan McCullum.

The 13-year-old was presented with the Ernie Watson Cup, for best schoolboy cricketer, at the Albion club's awards at the weekend.

It was the 50th year the cup had been presented and the wicketkeeper-batsman was rather overwhelmed once it sank in, Harrison's mother, Jenny Soper, said.

''I think it took a while for him to actually understand the significance of it,'' Soper said.

''It was only when he started looking at the names on it and saw B. McCullum and N. McCullum that he thought, `Goodness, this is quite an honour'.

''I don't think there would be many schoolboy cricketers around that don't sort of look at Brendon McCullum and think, `I want to be like him some day'.

''But for Harrison, because he has been captaining the team as well, he has been looking at the way Brendon captained the Black Caps and some of the tough calls he has had to make.''

Brendon McCullum won the award in 1994 and 1995, while older brother Nathan won it in 1993.

Other notable sportsmen with to have had their names on the cup include former Otago cricketer Ian Rutherford (1970), golf professional Greg Turner (1974) and New Zealand basketball great Mark Dickel (1987). More recently, Otago cricketers Nick Beard (2003) and Josh Finnie (2010) received the award.
